Company Background
Eco-Revolution is owned and family-operated by Heather & Ronn Jerolaman. It was begun in 2008 by Heather, who wanted to work from her home but be there for her family as needed. She is currently a stay at home mom trying to provide for her family and help them make ends meet. After some thought and research, she wanted to extend her zest for living organically to others and inform people of the different organic and green products available to us.
As Heather continued with her work and research, she came up with the name of our company. She wanted to start a revolution, to create a change in a way not only her family but other families could engage in their roles in making this world more “eco-friendly” or “green”. Therefore, the name Eco-Revolution was born.
After discussing the idea for approximately six months, we began to research and inquire about developing a small business. Our biggest fear is how to make this dream become a reality without putting our family in financial jeopardy. With the support of friends and family it gave us the strength we needed to lay the groundwork and plan of action to take this idea and make it a reality. Through the hard work and collaboration of local business entities and our alma mater, our website design and ideas have come to life. The introduction into this new world has been exciting and intimidating at the same time. We have formed not only new business relationships but also personal ones and it those we hope to build with you our patrons as our company begins to blossom. We believe our company will eventually become successful because of honesty and integrity. These are the values and foundation that our company will be operated and built upon.
The Present
Our goal is to provide you with the most current organic clothing and apparel available. Our suppliers are all 100% certified organic. When we came up with our original idea for the company it was smaller and has since evolved into a broader range of organic products because our knowledge expanded. When we first began development it started out as Men’s & Women’s T-shirts only, but soon evolved into a wide selection of handbags, purses, backpacks, hats, scarves, and gloves. We hope to offer a wide selection of the highest quality organic products at a reasonable price. We also wanted to consider and provide an unsurpassed level of customer support. All our natural and organic products consist of a single type or combination of hemp, nettle, silk, wool, felt and organic cotton. There are also other types of organic products that we may use in the future as our vision and business grows. We wanted to stay true to our values and foundation so we incorporated a majority of our products being also handmade, fair-trade items. We try not to source product out of China, although we do offer some clothing from China. Our goal is to try to establish relationships with other suppliers and eventually have all products made from all parts of the world. We are currently progressing toward this goal.
The Future
Our expectation was to build Eco-Revolution into a company that would become a source for knowledge and products that benefit our environment along with educating individuals on the uses of hemp and other natural and organic materials. It is our goal to also create an appreciation of the handmade and fair trade items. As our suppliers continue to grow and develop so will our products change and develop. Our company will only continue to build relationships that are true to our values and foundation. So in the future some of our handmade, natural fiber, fair trade items may change in name or vary slightly in design but the quality will always be held in high regard. Most of our supplier’s products are handmade, natural fiber, fair trade accessories made by women for women from around the world.
For example, one of our suppliers travels the world making sure they are using the highest quality products available. In Nepal, the hemp fabric that is used in our products is from the remote Western Region of Nepal. It grows wild in the lower Himalayan Mountain regions. It is not cultivated or farmed as in all other countries. The villagers in this remote area cut the hemp down by hand and soften the hemp in water. Other larger processing countries use chemicals and softeners to get a consistent, smooth, refined finish. Nepali hemp is a bit rougher and uneven and has some color variations. The stalk of the hemp plant is then brushed into wool like material and then spun by hand into a strand of twine. The twine is then woven by hand on a pit loom into a piece of fabric that is 1 meter by 3 meters long. The fabric is carted down the mountains on foot and to the nearest road where it is brought into Kathmandu. In Kathmandu, the craftswomen buy the fabric and make the unique and beautiful creations that we offer. Some of the silk and wool products we offer are made from the ladies that make our hemp items and they are considered fair trade as well. Our recycled silk items are of the highest possible quality because they are 100% silk. The silk is from the waste cuttings in India where silk saris are made. Most other recycled silk items contain other man-made fibers like nylon, which is soft, but not natural. Like the recycled silk items, the felted wool items are all made by women.
